The large size (8.5' x 11') of this ceiling mosaic makes it difficult to include the whole image in the camera lens. The mosaic is installed above the dining room table in this stately Arts and Crafts style home in Essex, Massachusetts. The dining room adjoins a sitting area with spectacular views of marshes and conservation land.

The window is not constructed like a traditional mosaic. Instead, the individual panels were assembled in the copper foil method and the panels laminated to medium density fiberboard. Since no light can travel through the window the glass was selected for its reflective beauty. The glass used was made by Chicago Art Glass Co. with highlights of glass jewels that are back laminated with copper.

The client was most interested in including plants found on her land, specifically thistles and lady slippers which adorn the center oval. The perimeter border includes a subtle winding acanthus plant on a midnight blue and green background.

The client was wonderful to work with and showed great patience while we searched for just the right glass. We are very proud of the results and are honored to be a part of the tasteful decoration of the home.
