The Brooks Memorial Window was designed by Boston artist Sarah Wyman Whitman and was installed at Trinity Church in 1893. The window was in poor structural condition and the aesthetic was compromised by previous poor restoration and damage to the glass from an acid wash of the building in the 1970's. The restoration included the disassembly of the background of all sections, the preservation of the cast lead wreath and the replacement of a limited number of jewel chunk rosettes suffering from devitrification. The clear background glass, damaged by the acid, was removed, archived and replaced with a glass matching the original blown texture. This decision was arrived at jointly by the Architect, Conservation Consultant, Conservation Committee and Maher Stained Glass. The discussions of conservation philosophy and procedures are the basis of conservation principles that will be adopted for the restoration of all the windows at Trinity Church.
