CLASSES

I'm looking forward to the cool air and buzzing creative energy of classes and students in our Fall Stained Glass Classes.

In past years, the Monday evening Beginner I class has filled up so quickly that I ended up adding a Beginner I class on Tuesday nights and I will do so again this Fall. If you do sign up for Beginner I let me know if you prefer a Monday or a Tuesday night so I can accommodate everyone. Even if you have taken class with me before Beginner I is a great class to reinforce the basic and crucial skills to succeed in making stained glass. More experienced students will be encouraged to make more complex pieces but still work through the schedule of the class.

Hope to see you in class!  Best wishes, Dan Maher

BEGINNER I

The perfect class for the rank amateurs, hobbyists with limited skills or students who haven't studied with me before who wants to acquire a solid foundation in glass cutting, layouts, pattern making, copper foiling, assembly/soldering and basic lead frame making. The class will establish fundamentals that will allow you to progress into some of the more complex techniques that I offer in more advanced classes. I especially offer extra attention to the cutting technique which is the core skill to be successful in doing stained glass as a hobby or vocation. Students will make a small panel approximately 16" square of original or stock design.

Cost: $350 includes materials to complete the project. Studio tools are available for use for students who don't own their own.

Sessions: 6 weeks  Monday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 pm
               (9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15)

Class limited to 6 students.

BEGINNER IA - "Makers"  This class is for students who have some experience and want to make a larger or more complex project. There will be some review of technique but not enough for a rank amateur so this class is for experienced students only. The primary focus of the class is advancing a students' skill and experience to tackle more complex designs. The extra hours and longer class times should allow for a larger and more complex project and more glass cutting practice time if needed. The project will include design, patterning, glass cutting, foiling, soldering/assembly, lead framing and patina options. Fused glass elements or photo imaging can also be included as part of the project. Students must have previously taken my Beginner I class.

Cost: $350 includes materials to complete the project and offers 24 hours of time at the bench, the most hours of any stained glass class anywhere. Studio tools are available for use for students who don't own their own.

Sessions: 6 weeks  Saturday afternoons from 12:00 - 4:00 pm
               (9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20)

Class limited to 8 students.

BEGINNER IV - Photo Imaging in Glass

This class has proven to be one of our most popular classes and will introduce the students to the Rayzist Photo Etch system that allows artists to create a highly complex design, pattern, text or photograph integrated into a simple stained glass panel.  The class is a "makers" class and will focus on advancing students' skill and experience to tackle more complex designs, including design, Photoshop techniques to interpret images to use with the process, and the sandblasting of glass using the process.  The class will also briefly review fundamental techniques including cutting, layout, patterning and assembly techniques. Beginner instruction isn't offered in this class so some experience is required. Students must have previously taken my Beginner I class.

Cost: $350 includes materials to complete the project. Studio tools are available for use for students who don't own their own.

Sessions: 6 weeks  Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 pm
               (9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17)

Class limited to 8 students.
